To appeal or request reconsideration of our accommodations decision, log in to your NCBE Account and select MPRE Test Accommodations. Once there, you will see the options to view your Request Summary, start an appeal, or start a request for reconsideration. If you plan to appeal or request reconsideration, do not register and schedule your test appointment until after you receive a decision on your appeal or reconsideration request. If you register and schedule an appointment to test prior to submitting and receiving a determination on an appeal or a request for reconsideration, you may need to reschedule or cancel your test appointment. For information about scheduling, rescheduling, cancelling, and associated fees, visit MPRE Registration Information. Contact MPRE Registration at mpreregistration@ncbex.org with any questions.
MPRE Test Accommodations Decisions
Complete requests are reviewed in the order received and it typically takes NCBE at least 25 business days to review a request. All correspondence from NCBE regarding your accommodations request will be sent to your NCBE Account File Cabinet.
You will receive an email notification whenever new information is available, so please ensure that the primary email address listed in your NCBE Account remains current. If 25 business days have passed and a determination has not been posted to your File Cabinet, contact MPRE Test Accommodation Services at mpre.ada@ncbex.org.
If Your Request Is Granted
If your request for accommodations is granted in whole or in part, NCBE will post an Accommodations Confirmation and determination letter to your NCBE Account File Cabinet listing the approved accommodations and their expiration date (Period of Eligibility). The determination letter will provide general instructions on how to schedule your test appointment at a Pearson VUE testing center.
Seating at Pearson VUE testing centers is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you receive notice of our accommodations decision, if you do not plan to appeal or request reconsideration, register and schedule your test appointment with Pearson VUE as soon as you can. While the registration deadline is several weeks prior to the test administration, some test accommodations may take longer for the Pearson VUE testing center to arrange. If you wait to schedule your test appointment, you run the risk of not being able to test on your preferred test date, at your preferred location, and/or at your preferred test time.
Custom testing materials and/or arrangements require additional preparation time. Please refer to your determination letter, posted in your NCBE Account File Cabinet, for additional instructions if applicable.
Finally, please note that NCBE does not disclose information about the nature of your disability to Pearson VUE except to the extent necessary to facilitate the administration of the approved accommodations. For additional details, please refer to the MPRE Test Accommodations Privacy Policy.

If Your Request Is Not Granted
If your request for accommodations is not granted or only partially granted, a decision letter will be posted to your NCBE Account File Cabinet. If you do not agree with NCBE’s decision, there are two ways to seek review: (1) submit an appeal or (2) request reconsideration. All appeals and requests for reconsideration should be submitted using your NCBE Account. Determinations cannot be changed over the phone. To appeal or request reconsideration, follow one of the established processed below.
Appeal
An appeal does not require submission of any additional documentation.
If your request for accommodations is not granted or only partially approved, you may submit an appeal, even if you do not have any additional documentation to submit. Appeals may only be submitted once, and decisions are final. However, if your appeal is denied, you may still request reconsideration if you have additional documentation to submit that is new, substantially different from what you submitted previously, relevant, and material.
- You cannot submit an appeal until after a determination is made on your initial request for accommodations.
- You cannot submit an appeal if you already have an appeal pending.
- You cannot submit an appeal if you have a request for reconsideration or extension request pending.
- To submit an appeal, log in to your NCBE Account and select MPRE Test Accommodations. Once there, you will see the option to start an appeal from the Actions menu.
- All appeals submitted by the registration deadline for a particular test administration will be considered for that administration; however, the later you submit your appeal after the Recommended Submission Date, the higher the risk that you will not be able to test on your preferred test date, at your preferred location, and/or at your preferred test time.
- Appeals, including forms and documentation, that are not received by NCBE by the registration deadline for a specific MPRE administration will not be considered for that administration of the exam.
- It typically takes NCBE at least 25 business days to process an appeal. Please consider this when submitting an appeal for your preferred test date, and refer to Important Dates for MPRE Test Accommodations for more information.
- After you submit your appeal, an Appeal Summary will be available in the MPRE Test Accommodations section of your NCBE Account. It will also be posted to your NCBE Account File Cabinet. Please retain this document for your records. If you do not receive an Appeal Summary within one business day, please contact NCBE to confirm that your appeal was received.
If you have questions about appealing your determination, you may contact us by email at mpre.ada@ncbex.org.
Reconsideration
Reconsideration requests require additional documentation that is new, substantially different from what you submitted previously, relevant, and material.
If your request for accommodations is not granted or only partially approved, and you have additional documentation that is new, substantially different from what you submitted previously, relevant, and material, you may request reconsideration. Unlike an appeal, which is based on a re-review of the same documentation and may only be submitted once, you may request reconsideration multiple times as long as each request is accompanied by additional documentation.
You may also request reconsideration following an adverse decision on an appeal if you have new documentation to submit in support of your request. The appeal process and the reconsideration process are not mutually exclusive.
Additional documentation must be new, substantially different from what you submitted previously, relevant, and material. Examples of appropriate supplemental documentation vary based on your limiting condition, but generally include: a new psychological evaluation, an existing psychological evaluation that was not previously submitted, verification of a prior accommodation that was not previously submitted, scores on assessment measures that were not previously submitted, or new diagnostic medical reports updating the status of your condition. It is not sufficient to submit a brief note written on your behalf by a qualified professional or a personal statement disagreeing with our decision without additional supporting documentation.
- You cannot submit a request for reconsideration until after a determination is made on your initial request.
- You cannot submit a request for reconsideration if you already have a request for reconsideration pending.
- You cannot submit a request for reconsideration if you have an appeal or extension request pending.
- To submit a request for reconsideration, log in to your NCBE Account and select MPRE Accommodations. Once there, you will see the option to start a request for reconsideration from the Actions menu.
- All requests for reconsideration submitted by the registration deadline for a particular test administration will be considered for that administration; however, the later you submit your request after the Recommended Submission Date, the higher the risk that you will not be able to test on your preferred test date, at your preferred location, and/or at your preferred test time.
- Requests for reconsideration, including forms and documentation, must be received by NCBE by the registration deadline for a specific MPRE administration or the reconsideration request will not be considered for that administration of the exam.
- It typically takes NCBE at least 25 business days to process a request for reconsideration. Please consider this when submitting a request for reconsideration for your preferred test date, and refer to Important Dates for MPRE Test Accommodations for more information.
- After you submit your request for reconsideration, a Reconsideration Request Summary will be available in the MPRE Test Accommodations section of your NCBE Account. It will also be posted to your NCBE Account File Cabinet. Please retain this document for your records. If you do not receive a Reconsideration Request Summary within one business day, please contact NCBE to confirm that your request for reconsideration was received.
If you have questions about requesting reconsideration of your determination, you may contact us by email at mpre.ada@ncbex.org.
